Xabi Alonso already replaced, two names emerge

Bayer Leverkusen is about to turn an important page in its history. After leading the club to its first Bundesliga title last year, Xabi Alonso announced his departure at the end of the season. While he will certainly leave a void behind him, Bayer Leverkusen must now find a coach who will have the difficult task of succeeding him. According to the media Kicker , the German club has two targets in mind to replace him: Erik ten Hag and Cesc Fabregas.
The Dutchman, recently dismissed by Manchester United, appears to be the most affordable option on the table. Ten Hag, open to an opportunity, is reportedly willing to lower his salary expectations to secure a spot on the bench. Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly offering him significantly less than the €12 million a year he was earning in England.
The other option, Cesc Fabregas, is shining on the bench for promoted Come, 10th in Serie A. The problem is that unlike Ten Hag, the former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder is under contract with the Italian club until 2028. Bayer Leverkusen will therefore have to pay a transfer fee to secure his services.
While Xabi Alonso has played his last home game for Bayer Leverkusen (2-4 defeat to Dortmund), he has one more Bundesliga match to play, against Mainz next Saturday. A final hurrah before taking on a new dimension on the Real Madrid bench.
