Mimos in Périgueux 2025: Galactik Ensemble acrobats will play with their bodies against the elements

Formed around fifteen years ago by five acrobats from the circus, the Galactik Ensemble company will present the first of its four shows this Wednesday, July 2, at the Theater
"We approach our pieces as games that are both theatrical and childlike." On stage, Mathieu Bleton and his four partners, present at Mimos , the Périgueux (Dordogne) performance arts festival, seek above all spontaneity and complicity with the audience. To ensure naturalness prevails, the five circus artists rely on situational acrobatics. "The goal is to move away from well-learned circus movements," explains Mathieu Bleton.
In "Optraken" (1), presented this Wednesday, July 2 at 8 p.m. at the Theater as part of the "in," the acrobats perform under a ceiling with 100 release points. The projectiles fall throughout the show and the protagonists work to play with these hazards. "We set up this device which brings out a form of singularity in us," explains Mathieu Bleton. The creation has been performed more than 200 times since 2014, which does not prevent the naturalness of the acrobatics. "Knowing that something is going to fall does not take away from the spontaneity," adds Mathieu Bleton.
Poetic and political showsSpectators are left free to interpret the message behind these bodies facing unforeseen disruptions. "The heart of our work is to open spaces for reflection," explains the circus artist. The Galactik Ensemble company will also encourage visitors to consider issues of power in a second show entitled "Hot Dog." Three performances are planned: Thursday, the 3rd, at Michel-de-Montaigne College, Friday, the 4th, at Gour de l'Arche, and Saturday, the 5th, at Parc de la Source.
In "Hot Dog," a name inspired by a metaphor representing a man caught between his values and the rules of society, three circus performers bounce for about thirty minutes on an inflatable mat. "The constant bouncing allows us to enter into a grand epic, like a kind of theatrical farce," explains Mathieu Bleton. Surrounded by the audience, they stage, with the help of music, successive transfers of power. A humorous performance, imagined after the 2024 legislative elections.
