Country Singer Conner Smith Kills Elderly Woman in Crosswalk During Car Accident, Per Police

Conner Smith is putting his guitar down for the time being.

One week after the “I Hate Alabama” singer fatally struck a pedestrian in Nashville, according to local police, he has canceled multiple upcoming performances to focus on himself.

“As Conner Smith takes time to privately process recent events, he will unfortunately not be performing in Akron on June 20,” his team shared in a statement to the organizers behind the Military Appreciation Concert in Akron, Ohio, June 16, per local Cleveland news outlet WKYC. “We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this difficult time.”

The day after the Akron concert—which he was set to headline—Conner was scheduled to perform at the Buckeye Country Superfest alongside headliners Jelly Roll, Kane Brown and Megan Maroney. However, the 24-year-old also stepped away from that appearance.

“Conner Smith will unfortunately not be performing this weekend,” the festival wrote in a June 16 post to X (formerly Twitter). “Vincent Mason will be joining us at The Shoe in his place.”

According to his website, Conner is still scheduled to perform throughout the summer, beginning in July.

The week before Conner’s cancellations, the “Creek Will Rise” singer was named as the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that struck and killed 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins, who appeared to be walking inside a marked crosswalk when the incident occurred, according to a June 9 press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” authorities said in the release. “He showed no signs of impairment. There are no charges at present as the investigation continues.”

After the incident, Dobbins was taken to a local hospital, where she died shortly thereafter, per the release.

Though Conner has yet to speak out on the tragic accident, his attorney Worrick G. Robinson expressed the singer’s condolences on his behalf.

“On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life,” the rep said in a June 9 statement to E! News. “His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Robinson added, “Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
