Why you'll never see BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty wear white on air

BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty might always have looked calm and composed on air, but behind the scenes she spent over three decades battling an agonisingly painful medical condition. It took 32 years before the BBC host finally got an answer as to what was causing her cramping, fainting, vomiting and excessively heavy bleeding.
She discovered at the age of 47 that she had severe adenomyosis, a condition affecting up to one in ten people where the lining of the womb starts growing into the muscle. It had caused periods so heavy that she'd had to set an alarm every three hours throughout the night to replace her sanitary products - and ended up "exhausted" due to how much blood she was losing. Naga grimaced and held back tears as she admitted on Hello! Magazine's Second Act podcast: "I never wear white on the bottom."
She described her condition as the "evil twin" of endometriosis, explaining: "I now take medication to control, suppress the production of my hormones so that these don't flare, so I don't have this pain and so I don't bleed."
Even now, however, Naga refuses to wear white trousers or a white skirt, after years of battling intense bleeding, which also caused her debilitating bouts of anaemia.
"For me, being anaemic was normal," she explained, adding that she'd soldiered on with her exhaustion, but "[just because] something is common, it doesn't mean it's normal".
The newsreader even struggled with unbearable pain during a procedure to have a contraceptive coil fitted to ensure she'd never have children - and when she later had removed due to it no longer suiting her, that left her in agony too.
She previously confessed how her decision never to become a mother caused a rift with her own mum, who was "devastated".
Yet despite online trolls condemning her for it, Naga is adamant that her childfree lifestyle, which she shares with husband James Haggar, is right for her.
Naga was initially diagnosed with adenomyosis after collapsing in agony after a night at the theatre back in 2022.
James put in an emergency call begging for an ambulance and warning: "[My wife] cannot move!"
Meanwhile, Naga also hit the headlines recently after a bullying probe into BBC Breakfast boss Richard Frediani and a feud between herself and Charlie Stayt.
