Clare Boss Peter Keane Accused Of Calling Journalist A C*nt After Abrupt Interview

Páraic McMahon of The Clare Echo has accused Clare football boss Peter Keane of calling him a 'c*nt' after he cut his post-match interview with the radio short.
The incident came after Down's 3-27 to 1-16 dismantling of the Banner County in the opening round of the All-Ireland Championship on Sunday in Páirc Chíosóg in Ennis.
It was an emphatic win for the travelling Mournemen, who, under Conor Laverty, have been going from strength to strength and continued it with a second consecutive Championship hammering of Clare in two seasons.
Speaking to Clare FM and the Clare Echo, Kerry great Keane described the result as disappointing, claiming they would now have to go back to the drawing board to see if they could turn their current of form around.
"Absolutely it is disappointing, we never got to the pitch of the game, particularly early on, we couldn’t get to the pitch of it and then scores start going away from you and you’re scratching all the time then," explained Keane.
"The Kerry game start was very poor yeah, putting your finger on it, can we improve on it, we’ll go back Wednesday night and see what we can do."

Sunday's loss was the county's second consecutive Championship defeat to the Mournemen, having also fallen against them last year, albeit by a slimmer 11-point margin than the 17 points which separated the sides this year.
The difference in results prompted Clare Echo journalist Páraic McMahon to question Keane over whether Clare were 'going backwards' under his watch.
Keane's response was cutting. The Clare boss accused McMahon of having an agenda before cutting the interview short and storming out.
Am I suppose Páraic that is maybe an angle you've been coming at for a while, just watching what you've been saying but that is the way you think about it.
I’ll tell you one thing, I’d f******
At that point, Keane cut the interview, which lasted just 60 seconds, with both the Clare Echo and Clare FM short and stormed off.
According to McMahon, Keane then returned and asked if the microphones had been turned off before landing his final blow.
Do you know what, you're nothing but a c*nt.
The former Kerry star and manager was ratified as Clare senior football manager in November of 2024 and has endured a mixed set of results so far.
The Banner County enjoyed a relatively successful Division 3 campaign, winning five of their seven clashes. Despite finishing level with both Kildare and Offaly on ten points, Keane's men just missed out on promotion owing to their inferior score difference.
Keane then opened his Munster Championship campaign with a win against Tipperary in the semi-finals, but succumbed to an eleven-point defeat at the hands of Keane's native Kerry in the final.
After their troubles in yesterday's All-Ireland Championship opener, Clare will now face an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages of the competition, with clashes against Leinster champions Louth and Monaghan both lying in wait for Keane's men.
