Limerick in dominant form as they see off Waterford for first win in Munster SHC
Holders Limerick recorded their first win in the 2025 Munster senior hurling championship by seeing off Waterford on a 0-28 to 0-22 scoreline at Walsh Park this evening.
John Kiely’s side ran up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead after the opening 10 minutes at the Waterford venue and didn’t look back.
Aaron Gillane, who finished with 0-9, kept the scoreboard ticking over for them as they eventually went in at the break with 0-15 to 0-10 advantage.
Mark Fitzgerald cut the deficit down to four points for the Deise men early in the restart and a couple of Stephen Bennett points would have the scoreboard reading 0-16 to 0-14 with 43 minutes on the clock.
Gillane and Shane O’Brien steadied the Treaty men’s ship with well taken scores however, and Gillane (free) and Colin Coughlan sailed over points after that to leave half a dozen in it with 15 minutes remaining.
Gearoid Hegarty and Cian Lynch raised the Limerick tally to 0-24 over the next five minutes ahead of substitute Aidan O'Connor, Cathal O’Neill, O’Brien and Gillane’s ninth of the day rounding off for the six-point win in the end.
Next up for the Shannonsiders is a date with league champions Cork on Sunday, May 18th at the TUS Gaelic Grounds (4pm), while Waterford visit Tipperary in Thurles on the same afternoon (2pm).
