Hygiene and sanitation deficiencies: the bar closed

He had been under law enforcement scrutiny for some time due to drug dealing, frequent brawls, and generally shady associations. On Monday, August 4th, the Carabinieri of the NAS (Anti-Adult Drugs Unit) pulled the trigger, with the invaluable support of the SIAN (Food Hygiene and Nutrition Service) of the ULSS 6 Euganea and the Carabinieri of the local station. When the Carabinieri entered the bar on Via Oltrebrenta in Noventa Padovana, right on the border with the province of Venice, they immediately realized they would be faced with numerous irregularities.
Starting with the overall hygiene situation in the establishment, which appeared to be too poor to guarantee customer safety. Structural deficiencies were also highlighted: refrigerators and other food storage equipment were found to be out of date, non-functional, and otherwise unsuitable. After an initial inspection, the NAS officers requested the intervention of the SIAN, which confirmed the NAS findings. Consequently, the decision was made to immediately suspend the license and close the bar. The managers of the Chinese business will now be able to reopen only after paying the fines imposed totaling €6,000 and restoring the workspace to an acceptable condition for welcoming customers. The activity will also have to include the space used for restrooms, which was found to be in extremely precarious condition.
The bar being inspected is no stranger to law enforcement. Carabinieri conduct frequent inspections, repeatedly recording the presence of individuals with criminal records, drug dealing, and frequent brawls erupting over trivial matters, aggravated by excessive alcohol consumption. Residents of the building have repeatedly called for forceful intervention by law enforcement, as it is not only a disreputable establishment, but could also, in the long run, become a place of degradation, with all the consequences for those who live and work there. Now the managers, who last winter were also issued a hefty fine by the local police, primarily related to the failure to properly enforce a regional ordinance limiting slot machine opening hours, will have to upgrade the premises and use modern, functioning equipment. They will then have to pay the fines imposed by the NAS on Monday. Only then will they be able to contact the heads of the Anti-Adult Food Safety Unit, who will come out for a new inspection and will be able to issue the green light for reopening if everything is finally in order.
