M5S, the double mandate limit falls: green light for Fico's candidacy in Campania

The M5S has definitely exceeded the limit of two mandates . The online vote of the members' assembly closed yesterday evening: the question on the mandates was approved with 43,236 yes and 8,196 no, with a quorum of 51.8%. This is what can be deduced from the results published on the Movement's website.

Senators and deputies with two active mandates could also participate in the race for the presidency of a Region and for mayor of a city. A rule that also concerns the possible candidacy of the former president of the Chamber Roberto Fico to lead Campania. Fico has also overcome the break of a legislature provided for by the stop&go, therefore he is eligible for all roles.

The main rule, in fact, provides that mandates can never be more than three. To reach the maximum threshold, there are several ways. One provides that Five Star exponents with two consecutive legislatures behind them in Parliament can return to the field only after having missed one: it is the so-called stop and go. Many "retired" big names such as Fico, but also former vice president of the Senate Paola Taverna and former Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede could therefore already be eligible for re-election.
