Varese - Storms coming to the province of Varese: orange alert from Civil Protection - - Varese News

The Civil Protection of the Lombardy Region has issued today, Monday 7 July, an orange level weather alert for the risk of strong thunderstorms , which also affects the province of Varese .
The alert, contained in the bulletin issued in the early afternoon, is valid from 2:00 pm today until the early hours of the morning of Tuesday 8 July . The criticality concerns the entire region, but is concentrated with particular intensity in the Varese area, where the situation is being carefully monitored.
According to the regional bulletin, the two areas of the province involved in the alert are “Laghi e Prealpi Varesine” and “Nodo Idraulico di Milano”. The first affects the central-northern area of the Varese territory , which includes the prealpine reliefs, the lake areas and the main mountain basins. In this area an orange alert is active for risk of thunderstorms , with widespread and heavy rain expected in the afternoon and evening hours, accompanied by gusts of wind up to 70 kilometers per hour and medium-sized hailstorms .
The second zone, which also includes part of the south of the province , involves the municipalities of the lower Varesotto and is part of a larger band that includes the provinces of Milan, Monza and Brianza, Como and Lecco. Here too the alert is orange for risk of strong thunderstorms , in force from 2:00 pm today to 6:00 am Tuesday morning.
The Functional Center for Monitoring Natural Risks has reported that the critical phase will be concentrated in the second part of the afternoon , when an unstable front is expected to pass from west to east. The precipitations, initially scattered, will tend to increase in intensity, taking on a stormy character also with possible locally violent phenomena. During the night between Monday and Tuesday, the rains will continue to affect the central-eastern sectors of the region, while in the Varese area a progressive exhaustion of the precipitations is expected starting from the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Civil Protection Department invites the population to pay maximum attention in the next few hours. The orange alert phase implies the possibility of damage caused by gusts of wind, falling branches or trees, urban flooding, landslides in hilly and mountainous areas, and critical road conditions. The situation is particularly delicate near smaller watercourses and in areas where the ground is already saturated by the rains of recent days. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the most intense phenomena, not to stop under scaffolding or trees and to report any dangerous situations.
