Italy - The friendly accident report goes digital - Italy/World - Varese News

According to the Ansa agency, in 2024 in Italy there were 1.8 million road accidents, 80% of which were settled with the direct compensation system, thanks also to the amicable assessment method.
From today – July 1, 2025 – there is a big news in this sense: the CAI form (Friendly Incident Report, once called CID), becomes operational also in digital mode. Insurance companies will therefore have to guarantee customers the possibility of filling out the document via an app or through a website.
In the event of an accident, drivers will be able to fill out the declaration directly from their smartphone (or from a tablet or personal computer), entering the location, date, license plate of the vehicles involved, the dynamics of the accident and photographs. However, to validate the form, a digital signature via Spid or Cie will be required. This is explained by Aiped, the Italian Association of Damage Appraisers.
It should be noted, however, that the traditional paper form – the one present in almost all Italian car dashboards – will not be retired: companies are in fact obliged to always offer policyholders the choice between the digital document and the pre-printed one.
