Archaeologist Silvia Lusuardi Siena will reveal the mysteries of the Lombards to the public on Saturday

The grandiose excavation campaign in the mid-70s, a second tranche in the new millennium and now the first Trezzo festival “ Longobard Splendors ” dedicated to the conquerors who left an indelible mark here. The archaeologist Silvia Lusuardi Siena , protagonist of scientific discoveries that made the city one of the first study sites in Europe of the Germanic population – an excellence that eludes most – will tell the public about her adventure in the field on Saturday (at 5 pm in the park of the Rocca Viscontea). A weekend among falconers (Sunday from 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm at the Castle) and workshops to get closer to these ancestors whose existence is often ignored: there will be a Lombard jewelry workshop (Sunday in Piazza Libertà from 4 pm to 8 pm) and the Lombard treasure hunt (Sunday at 4 pm in the park of Villa Crivelli), a cultural journey to discover our ancestors. The guided tour with Pro loco to the Lombard Museum of the Castle is scheduled (Saturday after the conference by Silvia Lusuardi Siena), to welcome visitors, Rodchis, the Giant , over two meters tall, brown with a beard. One of the dignitaries who came to light after 14 centuries of "sleep" thanks to the archaeologists of the Superintendency. The studies discovered five tombs of the royal clan, their presence is confirmed in the Historia Langobardorum by Paolo Diacono who speaks of a battle of Coronate - the neighboring Cornate d'Adda - in 698.

A face-to-face meeting with the history that has written an important page in the city, as told by the expedition that in 1976 brought the small male necropolis of high dignitaries back to light. Experts have reconstructed the identikit of the most famous of the five notables. The family was found during the construction of a condominium in via Rocca, the funerary objects left no doubt that the Giant and his companions were high-ranking figures, gastaldi, charged with managing Italy. This is what the gold crosses, the inlaid belts, the reliquary tip, shreds of fabric with gold brocade edges, damask swords, scramasax, a type of dagger, the silver-plated iron spurs tell. In the 90s, a funerary nucleus was brought to light in Cascina San Martino, perhaps attributable to the “Lords of the Rings”, three in solid gold had been found in the first excavation. The most prestigious burials were Christianized with the construction of an oratory. Outside the town, the vicus Salianensis with the church of San Michele was discovered. And in the garden, the lid of one of the sarcophagi of the dignitaries.
