Orino - Minister Giorgetti inaugurates the hydrogeological safety works in Orino - Varese Laghi - Varese News
A day of celebration today, June 7, 2025, for the Municipality of Orino : this morning, in fact, the official inauguration ceremony of the works to secure the territory in the Gesiola area took place, a fundamental project to combat hydrogeological instability and guarantee the protection of the town, for the benefit of residents and tourists . The area is also home to a crotto known well beyond the municipal borders, a point of reference for leisure, whose streets and paths are frequented not only by the citizens of the town, but also by enthusiasts and tourists.
The ribbon cutting marked the conclusion of a long-awaited intervention, made possible thanks to the synergic commitment of administrators, technicians, institutions and citizens. Not only was the forest, which had been neglected for some time, cleaned up, but a collection tank for water was built and special channels were prepared. In particular, the access roads to the trails of the locality were redeveloped, also with the creation of drainage channels along the edges and the so-called stravacconi , or channels that cross the dirt roads transversally, so as to better regulate rainfall. An intervention that represents a concrete response to the hydrogeological risks that affect the area.
The presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti , who wanted to personally participate in the ceremony, also testified to the importance of the intervention: «His presence represents a strong signal of attention towards small municipalities and our territory — commented the mayor of Orino, Federico Raos — It was a beautiful day for the institutions, at all levels: when they team up together, the future of the territory can be planned more serenely. It is in moments of institutional collaboration like these that the pact between administrations and citizens is renewed».
The meeting was also attended by numerous civil and institutional authorities: among them the outgoing mayor of Orino, Cesare Moia , representatives of the Civil Protection, the president of the Mountain Community, Simone Castoldi , the mayors of Cuveglio, Giorgio Piccolo , and of Mercallo, Andrea Tessarolo , the president of the Campo dei Fiori Park, Giuseppe Barra , and the councilor of the Italian Red Cross, Andrea Zocchi . "I have done nothing more than conclude a project already started by the previous administration," the mayor wanted to emphasize. "I share the credit with those who preceded me, who started the work, and followed it for over a year. A special thanks, moreover, is also addressed to the technicians, offices, workers, Civil Protection and citizens who, with their contribution, made its realization possible."
With this inauguration, Orino not only marks an infrastructural milestone, but above all a promise kept towards the citizens: a result that does not represent a point of arrival, but rather a point of departure. "Now we have made a work available, which however must be maintained: a maintenance that no one gives you, and is also entrusted to the community - underlines the mayor - For this reason I thank in advance the great availability already obtained from the volunteers of the territory, and I launch an appeal for those who still can and want to take up this challenge".
