Workshops, music and dialect: Liolà Fest conquers adults and children. Standing ovation for Iannuzzo
The Liolà Fest started yesterday, the 28th, at the Pirandello Theatre in Agrigento , and was immediately appreciated by the many who did not miss the first day of the event as one of the key events in the Agrigento Italian Capital of Culture programme.
This festival, inspired by the Pirandello character of Liolà, combines art, theatre, music and creative workshops, transforming the Pirandello theatre into a laboratory open to the community and an example of accessible and inclusive culture.
Workshops and performances involved children, young people and adults
From 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the theater hosted multidisciplinary workshops aimed at children and young people. Among these, the theater and diction workshop led by Giulia Tarantino and Andrea Lo Piccolo, aimed at exploring Sicilian vocality, were much appreciated on the first day; digital arts and street art workshops, which introduced contemporary techniques while maintaining a link with folkloristic motifs; the creative writing seminar with Ester Rizzo , focused on identity narratives, was an educational moment, which transformed the theater into a "temple of sharing", according to the words of director Marco Savatteri , who is the promoter of the event
At 8:30 pm, on the stage of the Agrigento theater, Gianfranco Jannuzzo with “ Girgenti Amore Mio ” delighted the many spectators who filled the stalls and boxes with a highly applauded show. An emotional journey through Sicily, but not only, structured in sketches and monologues that alternated comedy and depth. Jannuzzo embodied a gallery of characters – from the Mayor of Cammarata to men at funerals – using dialect as a tool of cultural resistance. The narration also touched on burning issues such as migration and feminicide, without giving up moments of self-irony typical of Sicilian popular tradition, reinterpreting the concept of identity through a contemporary lens, where love for Sicily mixes with a biting social criticism. An evening that attracted over 500 spectators, with a mix of residents and tourists
Tonight at 8.30pm we will see Giuseppe Provinzan in “Comu Veni Ferrazzanu”, a work that reinterprets peasant traditions in an ironic way, using dialect as a tool of cultural resistance;
And on May 30th P aride Benassai with Alessandra Salerno in “La Lingua Madre”, a multimedia performance on multilingualism and Mediterranean identity.
The festival enhances the artistic and cultural fabric of Agrigento, involving figures such as Nazareno Fichera (painting) Osvaldo Lo Iacono (music), Giulia Tarantino and Andrea Lo Piccolo (theater and diction), Elio Di Bella, historian, Giovanni Geraci (music), Massimo Palamenghi (photography), Gioele Incadela and Sharon Costanza (singing), Roberto Bruccoleri (cultural operator), Silvana Tabone (dance), Marzia Patanè Tropea (theater), Ilaria Bordenca (theater), Giusy liberto and Naomi Gino Grillo (dance), Ester Rizzo (writer), Giovanni Volpe (director), Michele Iuliano and Chiara Sardo (musical),
