Drought: €35 million in compensation for affected farms

Thirty-five million euros are coming to drought-affected citrus, almond, pistachio, and olive growing farms. Agea announced the news, specifying that applications for support under Measure 23 can be submitted starting September 23.
With this call for proposals, the Sicily Region is implementing, for the year 2025, "exceptional temporary support for farmers particularly affected by natural disasters."
Support will be provided to companies that have suffered damage as a result of events occurring since January 1, 2024, and available resources will be concentrated on the most affected entities based on objective criteria: the loss must be equal to at least 30% of the production potential, as a consequence of a "formally recognized" natural disaster.
Requests must be submitted via the automatic application form. The paying agency (AGEA) has provided applicants with a pre-filled automatic application form, containing information from the company file and included in the graphic information layer provided by the Sicily Region.
Thanks to the graphical cultivation plan validated in the Sian, the respective plots will be automatically classified for aid, as the continuous monitoring checks of the AMS (Area Monitoring System) system have already been applied: a "predetermined" compensation eligibility control model at the level of each farmer-beneficiary.
