Electricity and gas bill, from July 1st 'energy receipt' arrives

Tomorrow, Monday 30 June, the possibility for vulnerable electricity users to migrate to the gradually protected service expires

Tomorrow, Monday 30 June, the possibility for vulnerable electricity users to migrate to the gradual protection service expires, a regime that currently allows an average saving on the electricity bill of approximately 113 euros per year per user. Assoutenti reminds us of this, asking for an extension of the deadline to March 2027.

Meanwhile , starting next July 1st, the new electricity and gas bill will come into force, a sort of 'energy receipt' that will make it easier for citizens to read and understand their bills.

Currently, vulnerable users (over 75, recipients of social bonuses, disabled people, residents of emergency housing facilities) are approximately 11.8 million, of which over 8 million have moved to the free market, while more than 3 million are served by the greater protection regime, explains Assoutenti. Customers who, by next June 30, can ask to migrate to the gradual protection service where the rates, thanks to the auctions involving the operators, are significantly lower than the other two markets. After this deadline, it will no longer be possible for vulnerable users to obtain savings on their bills for a total of 1.3 billion euros per year, considering the group of interested parties.

“This is precisely why we are asking the government today to intervene quickly, extending the possibility of transitioning vulnerable people to gradual protections and setting the new deadline for March 2027, when this regime will end entirely, as requested through an amendment to the Bollette Decree presented by Alberto Luigi Gusmeroli, president of the Chamber's Productive Activities Committee", says President Gabriele Melluso.

What will the new bill be like?

Furthermore, starting next July 1st, Italians will receive their electricity and gas bills in a completely new guise, with the invoices becoming 'energy receipts' in all respects, easier to read and understand. The new bill will consist of: a unified front page with the amount to be paid and all the essential information; an energy receipt, which will show the formation of the overall cost of energy (also showing separately VAT and excise duties, any bonuses, other items such as late payment interest, additional products and/or services etc.) and the Rai license fee.

There will then be an offer box, containing the elements of the offer useful to the customer to verify that it is correctly applied as per the signed contract and essential information elements; in this section, organized in uniform and homogeneous boxes, the information relating to the technical characteristics of the supply, readings and consumption, recalculations, historical information on consumption and maximum power drawn, payment status and installments, etc. must be reported.
