Green Hydrogen: 992 Million from the EU to 15 Projects in Europe

The European Commission has selected 15 projects for the production of renewable hydrogen in five European Economic Area (EEA) countries , which will receive a total of €992 million from the Innovation Fund . The funds come from the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and were awarded in the second auction of the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB).
The projects are committed to producing a total of 2.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen over the next ten years , helping to avoid over 15 million tonnes of CO2 emissions . The hydrogen will be used in hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as transport, the chemical industry, methanol and ammonia production.
Twelve of the selected projects will receive a fixed prize between 0.20 and 0.60 euros per kilogram of hydrogen produced . For the first time, a dedicated budget has been foreseen for the maritime sector, leading to the selection of three projects that will receive 96.7 million euros and will require a contribution between 0.45 and 1.88 euros/kg .
Individual grants range from €8 million to €246 million for a maximum period of 10 years . The initiative aims to accelerate European production of renewable hydrogen , reduce the cost gap with fossil fuels and support the transition to cleaner energy sources.
