Race for the Cure, Rome colored pink with 150 thousand participants

Twenty-six years of prevention and solidarity. Rome was colored pink today with the 150 thousand participants in the Race for the Cure, the largest demonstration for the fight against breast cancer and in support of women with this disease in Italy and in the world. Important results also for the Villaggio della salute, which offered over 4000 free tests for the early diagnosis of breast cancer and other diseases. And registrations continue for the Races of Bari, Bologna, Brescia, Matera and numerous municipalities in Campania.
Organized by Komen Italia under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, with the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers - and this year exceptionally included in the calendar of jubilee events - the Race has received exceptional expressions of appreciation and support, the organizers emphasize, such as the lighting in pink of the Vespucci ship in the port of Palermo - promoted by the Navy - and the precision launch - promoted by the Italian Army - of three athletes from the Parachuting Sports Activities Department who landed the Italian Tricolor from the sky at the starting point together with the flags of the Army and Komen Italia. As always, the true protagonists of the Race for the Cure are the Women in Pink, women who are facing or have faced breast cancer, who with their courageous testimonies and the sharing of experiences continue to raise public awareness on the importance of early diagnosis. It is "an event that, for its high social values and the undisputed contribution it offers to the promotion of prevention and public health, has become one of the most appreciated and attended solidarity events in the Capital", declares Riccardo Masetti, Founder of Komen Italia.
The Race for the Cure "is a civil miracle that helps the women and men of this country with a strong and powerful message that looks at life. The beautiful Jubilee Caravan will travel the outskirts of the city to bring prevention especially to the most fragile people", says the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
In addition to the traditional 2 km walk and 5 km run open to all, this year the event once again included a 10 km race reserved for competitive athletes and the Rema Race, a regatta on the Tiber that involved almost 25 crews from the Circoli Canottieri Romani and many other Italian regions. Thanks to the Race for the Cure, in this long period of time, Komen Italia has invested over 31 million euros in research, prevention and support projects for women experiencing breast cancer. The Race will continue in Bari (16-18 May), Bologna (19-21 September), Brescia and Matera simultaneously (26-28 September) and in numerous municipalities in Campania (4-26 October).
