A lilac bench , a symbol of awareness of Nutrition and Eating Disorders (NAD) , has been placed in the garden of the Ferraris Scientific High School in Varese.

The initiative was promoted by the Kiwanis Club Insubria , together with the Kiwanis KEY Club of Liceo Ferraris – of which it is a Club Sponsor – and the Kiwanis Club Varese. An alliance between senior and youth clubs to promote a message of attention and care towards a topic that is unfortunately increasingly current among young people.

The bench, located in the Philosophical Circle of the institute, is accompanied by a plaque that shows the logos of the three city clubs and a significant phrase: "No one should be left alone. Together against eating disorders" along with the national support telephone number, active 24 hours a day.

"The presence of a purple bench at the Liceo Scientifico of our city - commented Silvia Rinaldi , founder of the Kiwanis Club Insubria and currently Lieutenant of Division 15 Lombardia-Liguria - is fundamental to achieving the goal of this year's main District Service: to give kids a concrete tool for awareness and information, not only to recognize the signals in themselves but also to support their classmates".

The bench represents the tangible continuation of a journey that began last March 15, on the occasion of the National Day of the Purple Ribbon , with a conference aimed at the students of the two-year period (about 600 participants), made possible thanks to the availability of the school principal Marco Zago . The speakers on that occasion were Eugenia Dozio, clinical nutritionist, and Silvia Rinaldi, medical psychologist and psychotherapist.

During the event, a survey was also proposed, built with the collaboration of the Institute representatives: the answers and requests for further information that emerged highlighted a mature, respectful and proactive attitude on the part of the students, demonstrating the sensitivity with which young people address these issues when they are provided with adequate tools and listening spaces.
