Rai-Unirai, agreement to reduce precarious employment: 127 journalistic hires expected in 2026

The Unirai Figec Cisal union has signed an agreement with Rai to start an internal selection process for journalists to be assigned to regional newsrooms and programs . The agreement provides for 120 hires over the next year and a half to fill the gaps in staffing in TGR , caused by retirements and early retirements. The hires will also serve to satisfy requests for internal mobility and therefore cover staff shortages in national newspapers. A quota of 7 hires is also planned to be allocated to those who want to be stabilized in the programs where they work . Both professional journalists, both employees, currently employed with contracts other than the journalistic one, and external collaborators, will be able to participate in the selection process.

The company also commits to launching a public selection in 2026 to cover the staff shortages expected in 2027. “In a difficult moment for the sector – says Francesco Palese, secretary of Unirai – these hires represent a fundamental result, the fruit of everyone's commitment, starting with the Unirai board. It is a first concrete step towards recognizing the journalistic contract to those who are entitled to it . An important signal against precarious employment , which at the same time allows regional editorial offices to work at full capacity, in line with the service contract and the editorial plan. Furthermore, the agreement paves the way for new transfers, strengthening the national newspapers with new energy”.

"But as a former precarious worker - adds Palese - I want to highlight the human value of this agreement. I know well what it means to work for years in uncertainty, without rights, living day by day. This is a victory of dignity for those who have given everything, often invisible, but always present. Today we begin to give back to many colleagues what they deserve: stability, recognition, a future. This is just the starting point."

Great satisfaction for the signing of the agreement was also expressed by the secretary of Figec Cisal, Carlo Parisi , who applauded the valuable work carried out by the Unirai Figec Cisal Board of Directors, led by the secretary Francesco Palese, highlighting the value of a result that, finally, recognizes the professionalism of numerous colleagues who have been flying the flag of the Public Service for years.
