Clash in Parliament over the end-of-life bill: the majority is divided

Democratic Party Senator Alfredo Bazoli expressed his frustration by walking out of the Select Committee, accusing the majority of just wanting to waste time and not wanting to address the issues seriously.

The opposition's reactions

The situation is further complicated by the decision of Ilaria Cucchi of the Green and Left Alliance to leave the Committee. Cucchi said that the right is making fun of Parliament, highlighting the lack of a shared text. Zanettin confirmed that, contrary to expectations, there is currently no agreement between the political forces, despite the Committee having been convened to present a unified text. The situation is becoming increasingly tense, with Committee members wondering how to proceed without a common basis.

New proposals and risks of rejection

In an already difficult context, news has emerged of a new bill on the end of life presented by Senator Maria Stella Gelmini. This new text could be combined with those already under discussion, further complicating the legislative landscape. The commissioners fear that, if an agreement is not reached, the Chamber could be reached in mid-July with a text that risks being rejected by the majority. The situation is therefore critical and requires immediate intervention to prevent the debate on the end of life from turning into a further reason for political conflict.
