Double mandate, the 5 Stars definitively exceed the limit: it is the green light for Fico's candidacy in Campania

The "sacred" rule falls

A final farewell to the “sacred” rule of the limit of the double mandate for elected officials. The 5 Star Movement surpasses one of its cardinal principles, established at its foundation by the duo composed of Beppe Grillo and Gianroberto Casaleggio , with the “new” course of Giuseppe Conte .
The green light came from an online vote of the members' assembly , which ended yesterday evening: the question on mandates, Ansa reports, was approved with 43,236 yes votes and 8,196 no votes , with a quorum of 51.8%, as can be seen from the results published on the Movement's website.
So how does the internal structure of the Movement change now? The regulation now provides that mandates cannot be more than three , but to reach this maximum threshold there are several ways. One of these provides for the so-called “ stop and go ”, that is, that elected members of the 5 Star Movement with two consecutive legislatures behind them in Parliament can return to the field only after having missed one, both in the two branches of Parliament and for the presidency of a Region or as mayor of a city.
This is how some of the Movement's "big names" currently out of the game could be re-nominated. The strongest name of all is that of the former president of Parliament Roberto Fico , the name of the five-star movement on which the Democratic Party in Campania could converge for the post of Vincenzo De Luca , whose third mandate was blocked by the judges of the Constitutional Court following an appeal by the Meloni government.
Along with Fico, other strong names from the Movement who have not broken with Conte in recent years could also return to the field: among these, the former vice president of the Senate Paola Taverna and the former Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede , the one who effectively "discovered" the former prime minister.
