Fazzolari at the Secolo d'Italia: I denounce Ranucci

The announcement
The Undersecretary of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers slams the Report host: "This isn't an attack on press freedom. His lies are deliberately spread."
"I will take legal action against Sigfrido Ranucci's lies." Giovanbattista Fazzolari, Undersecretary to the Prime Minister's Office, announced legal action in an interview with Antonio Rapisarda in Il Secolo d'Italia following the accusations leveled against him by the host of Report. "Ranucci's lies are not inaccuracies or journalistic errors," he said, "but intentionally spread lies. This is a serious attitude, even more so when it comes from someone who presents himself as a champion of the truth." Fazzolari rejected any suggestion of alleged stalking and spoke of "fanciful reconstructions" that would only serve to "tarnish those who work for the government."
The undersecretary explains that the decision to take legal action is not a threat to press freedom but "a form of self-defense : if I didn't do it, I would only reinforce the accusations; if I did, I would be accused of intimidating journalists." In the interview, Fazzolari also accuses the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement of fueling the controversy: "They are always predictable; they side with Ranucci even in the face of evidence." He concludes: "The truth is that they can't stand the fact that a center-right government has kept its promises and is stable."
