Forza Italia's delinquent parliamentarians are sending the party's budget into the red.

The Democratic Party (PD) has over €441,000. Forza Italia has hundreds of thousands. And it's a problem for the Five Star Movement (M5S), too. The issue of parliamentarians in arrears has exploded, or rather, exploded again. Those who don't pay their fixed contributions to the party, according to the quotas established for elected officials by individual statutes. A recurring theme in the 2024 budgets of several parties, from Forza Italia to the Democratic Party, including the Five Star Movement. Meanwhile, the Italian Left is bucking the trend, seeing its parliamentarians' contributions increase (from €204,000 to €281,000), all between €42,000 and €55,000.
The Five Star Movement, which has a surplus of over €2 million, has €2.8 million in receivables from members of parliament and regional councilors, and €1.4 million in severance pay. Compared to 2023, the Democratic Party's receivables from senators and deputies decreased by €55,000, to €441,000. As explained in the financial statement (with a surplus of €650,000), "the recovery effort" from elected officials throughout the various legislatures continued , with nine pending legal actions and four settlement agreements.
While third-party contributions have increased by €2 million and membership fees by over €300,000, the "inconsistency in payments" owed "by some elected officials" is a critical aspect of FI's financial statements (a deficit of €307,000). "More stringent decisions will need to be adopted to obtain payments," states the Forza Italia report signed by treasurer Fabio Roscioli, "including leveraging" internal rules that prohibit defaulters from holding office and disqualifying them from holding party positions.
