The minister defends his chief of staff. This isn't routine and deserves praise: it's a demonstration of solid co-responsibility, a fundamental requirement for the executive's political unity.

Carlo Nordio 's official statement regarding the allegations of some kind of independent action by his chief of staff , Giusi Bartolozzi, is an example of institutional correctness and deserves praise . The Minister of Justice wrote that "just as President Giorgia Meloni found it surreal that her ministers acted without her consent, I too find it puerile to suggest that my chief of staff acted independently." He then went on to clarify that "all, absolutely all of her actions were in compliance with my orders, for which I obviously assume political and judicial responsibility." The anti-government press and the president of the National Association of Magistrates had indulged in fantasies regarding Bartolozzi's role, even though he had not named her, suggesting "political consequences" should she be implicated in the Almasri investigation. Among the "leaders" chased away by Giusi—some actually did, as Il Foglio also reported in recent months—it's now clear that Nordio cannot be counted, since he's the only head of the ministry who has responded clearly to all the insinuations. This reinforces the idea of the executive's unity, where no one is passing the buck, even when, as in the case of the prime minister's exclusion from the indictments, there are attempts to exploit nonexistent divisions .
The decision to expel the Libyan leader accused of various crimes by the International Criminal Court was a political one and must be evaluated as such. Naturally, it is legitimate to disagree with it and criticize it, just as it is legitimate to think that national interests prevailed. However, speculation that tends to create or invent divisions and differences in the government's political will, which has been clear and certainly united and shared, is pointless. Nordio today, like Meloni yesterday, have demonstrated solid co-responsibility, a fundamental requirement for the political unity of the executive, and for this they must be recognized .
