“Pedaling Safely with Giovanni”, in Memory of Iannelli

Prato, July 3, 2025 – Saturday, July 5, starting at 9:00 am from Piazza del Duomo, “Pedalando in sicurezza con Giovanni” returns, the non-competitive ride dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Iannelli. The initiative, now in its fifth edition, will take participants to Carmignano, where it will end in front of the mural that commemorates him. The event was created to honor the memory of Giovanni, a promising young cyclist who tragically passed away in Piedmont during the finish of a race.

A tragedy that still calls for justice today, while the father Carlo continues with courage and determination to raise public awareness on the issue of road safety for cyclists. Too often, in fact, those who pedal on the roads live with risk and arrogance, and only chance prevents certain behaviors from turning into tragedies.

The ride is open to everyone, without the need to register: just show up with a bicycle, whatever it is, to take part in a moment of reflection and community. Along the route, a short stop is planned in the locality of La Serra, where the Orange Jersey, a symbol of memory of Giovanni, will be given to all participants free of charge. Arrival in Carmignano is expected around 10 am, in front of the mural dedicated to Giovanni. This will be followed by a moving remembrance by family members, friends and the authorities present. Now a tradition, this ride of about 10 km represents a collective gesture of memory and commitment: to not forget a young life broken on the asphalt, on a day that should have been one of sport and joy, and to forcefully reiterate the right to safety for those who choose cycling as a passion or lifestyle.
