Fencing: Italy wins world champion in men's sabre team competition

Italy is the world champion in the men's saber team event thanks to a 45-37 victory over Hungary at the World Championships underway in Tbilisi, Georgia. Luca Curatoli, Michele Gallo, Matteo Neri, and Pietro Torre secured the victory. Italy returns to the top of the world in the team event, ten years after Moscow 2015.

Yesterday, the Azzurri debuted with a 45-29 victory in the round of 32 against Thailand. Today, in the round of 16, Italy came from behind to defeat Germany, 45-39.

In the quarterfinals, the team coached by coach Andrea Terenzio defeated Poland 45 to 28 after having led the game from the very first shots.

In the semifinal, Curatoli, Gallo, Neri, and Torre defeated Japan 45 to 36. The men's team sabre gold medal was the second Italian gold after the one won in the men's team foil.
