Fencing: The Italians win gold in the team foil event at the World Championships. They defeat the USA in the final.

The Italian men's foil team won a gold medal at the World Championships in Tbilisi. Simone Vanni's quartet of Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini, and Alessio Foconi defeated the United States 43-42 in the final to become the 2025 world champions.
After yesterday's victorious debut against Croatia (45-30), the quartet today defeated Singapore 45-20 in the round of 16 and, with the same determination, dominated the quarterfinal against Poland, losing 45-36. In the semifinal, another show of strength for coach Simone Vanni's boys, who defeated France 45-30, in the same match that a month ago had won gold at the European Championships in Genoa and which today secured Italy's spot in the final against the United States.
The final match was full of ups and downs, with plenty of excitement as the Azzurri celebrated a 43-42 victory over the United States, securing the title of World Champion, their first since Cairo 2022.
This is Italy's fourth medal, and first gold, at the Georgian World Championships, following the bronze medals won yesterday by Luca Curatoli (sabre) and Martina Favaretto and Anna Cristino (foil).
The female swordswomen are fourthMeanwhile, Olympic épée champions Rossella Fiamingo, Giulia Rizzi, Alberta Santuccio, and Sara Maria Kowalczyk (replacing the retiring Mara Navarria) narrowly missed the podium, losing 37-31 to South Korea in the bronze medal match.
