CARRARA – The first steps of the newly promoted Carrarese Giovani to the First Category are encouraging. It should be reiterated that this was their seasonal debut and a friendly, but especially in the first half, the Carrarese team, despite missing players and having heavy legs, displayed good pace and interesting exchanges. Their opponents were Real Forte Querceta of the Eccellenza league. The season opener for coach Massimiliano Incerti 's team against the Versilia side ended in a 1-3 defeat. The result was secured in the second half, after a 1-1 first-half draw, when the coach from the marble workers, on the one hand, gave space to many of the youngsters, while on the other, the physical condition of Verdi's team was weak. Campo 's goals gave them the lead and Lembo secured the final 3-1.
In the African heat that reigned supreme on the Fossone pitch, it was the usual Iardella who opened the scoring for Carrarese Giovani after just six minutes, brilliantly capitalizing on a triangular pass from Bruzzi , followed by Da Pozzo , and finished on the left by the center forward who burned through the Forte defense. Versiliesi leveled the score in the final second of the first half with a penalty from Fantini . Campo and Lembo then scored for the visitors. In the build-up to their Coppa Italia debut, Bruzzi , Sodini , Biasci , Da Pozzo , and the 'powerhouse' Cucurnia stood out for the Marbles, playing for 90 minutes. The biggest problem was the injury to goalkeeper Ceragioli , who is expected to be out of action for at least ten days. Real Forte's Giampieri was also injured.
"I'd say it's an excellent debut," Incerti commented, "considering it's only been a week of training. The boys did what I asked, showing important plays and good tactical balance. Now we're focusing on the coming weeks, with sacrifice and a strong work ethic." Before mid-August, Carrarese Giovani will be back on the pitch tomorrow against Montignoso (Promotion) and the following day against Forte dei Marmi (Promotion).
