Delio Rossi is pedaling uphill. With about ten days to go until the official start of the Serie C season (the cup debut on August 16th at the Zaccheria stadium against Siracusa), Foggia has more than half its squad to rebuild. The transfer market is slow, with announcements arriving in dribs and drabs. So far, only three incoming deals have been finalized: former Pergolettese central defender Bignami, midfielder Garofalo (already a Rossonero player from 2020 to 2022), and winger Winkelmann, acquired from Lecce's Primavera team. Also working at the Trinitapoli training camp with the experienced former Lazio coach and his staff are youngsters De Simone, Castaldi, Agnelli, and Pazienza, as well as some "baby" players from the youth academy like Basso, Ciccone, and La Porta, several players on trial, and the four remaining senior players from last season: De Lucia, Felicioli, Tascone, and Orlando. Everyone's bags packed, unless one of them convinces Rossi and the club and secures a reappointment. This group is training intensely and with focus, but they're lacking numerous reinforcements in all areas to create a competitive squad for the upcoming third-tier championship.
Numerous negotiations have been initiated by sporting director Carlo Musa, who is facing a more difficult situation than expected, with many players rejecting Foggia, as admitted by the sporting director himself and Delio Rossi in the first press conference of the 2025/26 season. These deals are failing to materialize for several reasons: environmental concerns (the attempted criminal influence revealed by the Bari DDA investigation, which led to the club's judicial administration), the financial and logistical issues that arose last season between the club and its players, and the discrepancy between the requests of agents and players and Foggia's offer. The Rossoneri club hopes that after mid-August, the demands of both young players unable to find space at Serie A and Serie B clubs, and those players aiming for top Serie C clubs and currently demanding salaries beyond the reach of the club, will be lowered. In the meantime, however, a largely incomplete squad must be given substance, with the first official match of the new season due to take place in front of their fans the day after mid-August. Trapani, with several players on the way out, is being eyed; the free agent Di Nardo and former Monopoli player Borello are among the forwards the Rossoneri are interested in. Meanwhile, Rossi is also evaluating youngsters Manuel Cesari (20, Empoli graduate) and Marco Bevilacqua (born in 2004, formerly of the Atalanta Primavera and in Serie D last season with Civitanovese) for the front line. He's also eyeing a "baby": Federico Magro (born in 2005) from Verona. There are plenty of names on the docket, but a quick move is needed to get a transfer window off the ground, which is worrying Rossoneri fans.
