Massimo Stano, feat at the European team race walking: gold and world record in the 35 km

Massimo Stano set a new world record in the 35 km walk at the European team championships in Podebrady , Czech Republic. The 33-year-old from Puglia – Olympic gold medalist in the 20 km at Tokyo 2020 and world gold medalist in the 35 km in 2022 – won with a time of 2h20'43”. The previous record (2h21'40”) set last March by Canadian Evan Dunfee was shattered by almost a minute.
In the city that has always been considered the capital of the 'heel-toe' specialty, Stano made the difference in the final 11 kilometers by first overtaking the Polish Maher Ben Hlima , weighed down by two warnings, and then increasing the advantage over the German Christopher Linke, second in 2h23'21. In addition to Stano's victory, Italy also won the team gold medal thanks to the fourth place of Riccardo Orsoni (2h26'09”) and the ninth of Matteo Giupponi (2h28'57”).
The women's team also won a gold medal thanks to the second place of Antonella Palmisano, silver with an Italian record (2h39'35”) and the third of Nicole Colombi , bronze in 2h41'47”. Also fundamental was the fifth place of Federica Curiazzi (2h45'39”). Palmisano was preceded by the Spanish Maria Perez, Olympic champion in Paris 2024 in the 20 km and world gold medalist in the 35 km in Budapest in 2023, who with 2 hours 38'59 set the best world performance of the season.
