Mountaineer Marco Confortola achieves his 14th summit above 8,000 meters.

Fewer than fifty climbers worldwide have reached all 14 of the "eight-thousanders," the highest mountains on the planet. Among them is Marco Confortola, from Valfurva (Sondrio), who recently reached the 8,080-meter peak of Gasherbrum I in the Pakistani Himalayas, without supplemental oxygen. The Lombardy Alpine Rescue team announced this new historic feat.
