Palermo Ladies Open, in the qualifications two Roland Garros semi-finalists and the Italian Pedone

Two Roland Garros semifinalists are registered for the qualifications of the 36th edition of the “Palermo Ladies Open”, a WTA 125 tournament scheduled from 19 to 27 July at the Country Time Club in Palermo. The entry list of the junior draw is led by the twenty-year-old Serbian Lola Roadivojevic, 173 in the WTA ranking and winner of 7 ITF titles in her career, followed by the twenty-one-year-old Belgian Hanne Vandewinkel, 175 in the world ranking. Also on the list is the Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, former number 22 in the world, semifinalist at Roland Garros in 2021, and the Argentine Nadia Podororoska, who reached the semifinal on the red clay of Paris in 2020. The only Italian in the minor draw is the Palermo native (who trains at Country) Giorgia Pedone, 216 in the WTA ranking, but with a best ranking of number 183 in the world.
“The last player in the qualifiers is Podoroska, confirming the quality of the tennis players also present in the minor draw”, underlines the tournament director, Oliviero Palma. “A draw that also sees among the registered players a tennis player like Mona Barthel, who in her career has won 4 WTA titles. The tournament, even in its new guise of WTA 125, continues to be a point of reference on the circuit”, added Palma.
The qualifying matches – which offer 4 places in the main draw – will be played on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July. The organization has 2 wild cards available, which should go to as many Italian tennis players. The main draw is, instead, led by Mayar Sherif, former number 31 in the world, semifinalist 2 years ago at the Country and winner in May of the Wta 125 in Parma. The Egyptian tennis player is followed by the Swiss Jil Teichmann, who triumphed at the Country in 2019, and by the Dutch Arantxa Rus, 93 in the world ranking (winner of a Wta title in her career). Also in the main draw is the Romanian Irina Camelia Begu, who wrote her name in the roll of honor of the “Palermo Ladies Open” in 2022.
The tournament, with a prize pool of 115 thousand dollars, will have a singles main draw made up of 32 players; while 16 will be the couples who will participate in the doubles. The organization will also have 4 wild cards available for the main draw. Tickets are on sale on the Vivaticket circuit and at the Country Time Club: the cost of individual tickets ranges from 5 euros for the qualifications to 55 euros for the final.
