Paltrinieri suffers a finger injury: he continues in open water but will miss the World Championships in the pool.

Gregorio Paltrinieri will complete his open water program at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore: tonight's 5km (he's registered for the 3km knockout sprint (Saturday at 2:00 AM Italian time) and the 4x1500m medley (Sunday at 2:00 AM). Afterwards, however, he will return to Italy and will not participate in the pool races due to a minor injury.

Paltrinieri, injured yesterday during the 10k race that resulted in a silver medal, underwent an X-ray that revealed a small bone fragment at the insertion of the extensor tendon of the third phalanx of the fourth finger of his left hand. The Carpi champion will compete with the aid of protective taping of the interphalangeal joint.
