Tennis: Lucrezia Stefanini reaches the round of 16 at the Prague Open.

Lucrezia Stefanini
Prato, July 22, 2025 - Lucrezia Stefanini was somewhat of a surprise elimination after her first qualifying win against Germany's Caroline Werner. But once she was reinstated as a "lucky loser" (following a defeat by seventeen-year-old Czech wild card Kovackova), she seized her new opportunity, defeating Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova (WTA No. 104) 6-1, 7-6. Lucrezia Stefanini has thus advanced to the round of 16 of the "Prague Open 2025," the international tennis tournament currently underway in the Czech Republic's capital. Tomorrow, she will play Czech Marie Bouzkova, ranked No. 47, in a bid to reach the final. More generally, the Carmignano native has perhaps lacked the high point of a tournament victory compared to past seasons, but she has plenty of time to do so, and competing in highly challenging competitions is certainly worth considering. Last January, for example, Stefanini competed in the Australian Open, as she has done several times in the past, and on March 7th, she reached the quarterfinals of the W75 Porto. In any case, the twenty-seven-year-old from Carmignano has climbed to 338 wins in 601 career matches (a win percentage of 56.24%), climbing to 151st place in the WTA rankings. About two years ago, she managed to climb the rankings with a series of excellent performances, reaching 99th place overall. And who knows, maybe the recovery will resume in Prague.
