Arezzo, August 24, 2025 – Casentina, the charge of the 300
The first Casentino cycling tour has started with more than 300 participants.
Mayor Antonio Fani: “We are delighted with this great turnout.”
At the start of the first edition of La Casentina this morning in the main square of Strada in Casentino, more than 300 participants were present, including one hundred on vintage bikes. A resounding success, hailed by the organizers, MTB Casentino, the Mayor of Castel San Niccolò, Antonio Fani, Councilor Valentina Cenni of Pratovecchio Stia, and Regional Councilor Vincenzo Ceccarelli.
Many local officials, including Poppi Mayor Federico Lorenzoni and Bibbiena Sports Councilor Francesca Nassini, who started from the starting grid with their bikes, actively participated in the first historic cycling event in the Casentino Valley.
It was immediately supported by local authorities who rallied around the idea of a united Casentino event to promote and enhance: Castel San Niccolò of course, Poppi, Bibbiena, Ortignano Raggiolo, Pratovecchio Stia.
Born from a group of friends' passion for two-wheeled vehicles and the initiative of the Castel San Niccolò administration, the project immediately attracted the support of many companies and entrepreneurs in the valley who fell in love with the idea. Alongside the main sponsors Estra, Cantina Fregnan, Borgo Corsignano, and Fattorie di Celli, many other producers have joined forces, presenting themselves in various ways throughout the more than 300 race bags and along the routes.
The event also received the patronage of the Regional Council and Executive Committee of Tuscany.
Casentina has close collaborations and partnerships with eight other historic cycling tour groups, which were present this morning with some representatives on historic bikes.
The Casentino 300 will tackle three different routes of 30, 53, and 83 kilometers, designed by MTB Casentino and its experts. Antonio Fani, Mayor of Castel San Niccolò, commented, supported by his colleagues in attendance: "The first historic cycling event in Casentino is already a success. There are so many participants, far above expectations for an event that is in its first year and has moved forward with courage but slowly. I thank all the participating administrations, the Councilor and the Tuscany Region, and all the sponsors who believed in this beautiful dream."
