Wimbledon, Sinner-Djokovic semifinal today

Jannik Sinner returns to the court today, chasing his first career Wimbledon final. The world number one will face Novak Djokovic in a rematch of their Roland Garros semifinal from just over a month ago. The two will meet in the second match of the day on Centre Court. The other men's semifinal between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and American Taylor Fritz will open the schedule at 2:30 p.m., followed by the match between the Italian and the Serbian.

This will be the tenth match in the rivalry between Sinner and the 38-year-old from Belgrade. The South Tyrolean has a 5-4 record, having won all five of his last six matches. The Serbian's last victory came two years ago, at the 2023 ATP Finals. The last match was at Wimbledon in 2023, with Djokovic winning in three sets in the semifinals. A year earlier, again on the grass courts of the All England Club in London, in the quarterfinals, another head-to-head clash, with the Serbian winning in a fifth set.

"I felt good on court yesterday against Shelton. Today's practice session was very calm: it helped me get back on track for tomorrow's match against Djokovic. It's always a tough match against Novak. Facing him is always special but also very difficult. Playing in a Slam semifinal is always great, I hope to play well tomorrow." SWIATEK-ANISIMOVA WOMEN'S FINAL

Aryna Sabalenka bowed out yesterday in the semifinals of the women's Wimbledon tournament, the third Grand Slam event of the season, taking place on the grass courts of the All England Club in London. The Belarusian champion, ranked number 1 in the world and the main draw, fell to American Amanda Anisimova, ranked 12th in the world and seeded 13th, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Saturday's final will be the first of the 23-year-old's career major tournaments.

Challenging Anisimova for the women's British Grand Slam crown will be Iga Swiatek. The Polish champion, ranked No. 4 in the world and the eighth seed in the draw, easily defeated Swiss Belinda Bencic, ranked 35th in the world, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals. Saturday's match will be Swiatek's first Wimbledon final. She already boasts four Roland Garros trophies and one US Open.
