Agreement signed to build housing in Merida and 48 other municipalities of Yucatan

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, a collaboration agreement was signed at the Government Palace for the establishment of the Housing for Well-being Program through which it is planned to build 19,500 houses in Yucatán during this six-year term .
Of that number of homes , at least 2,500 are expected to be built this year , and the program will benefit Mérida and 48 municipalities in the interior of the State.
Edna Vega Rangel, Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) of the federal government, had a breakfast and a private meeting at the Government Palace.
Later, during the signing of the agreement with Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and 49 mayors of the State, he asked those present for the following:
“Let’s not see this program as just putting up walls in different areas and with that we learn, no, see that this is a program that also builds community , that guides human outreach.”
“They are not necessarily going to be in urban areas, but also in rural areas, so they guide the growth of these settlements, it has many benefits.”
In his turn, the governor asked to see the signing of this agreement as more than just a piece of paper, but as the first step, the beginning of housing policies that for many years were ignored in Yucatan and today will change the lives of many families throughout the Yucatan territory.
The signing of this agreement took place in the Hall of History of the Government Palace with the attendance of Alfonso Iracheta Carroll, general director of the National Housing Commission; Felipe Cervera Hernández, general director of the State Housing Institute, and Mauricio Sahuí Rivero, regional delegate of Infonavit, who will participate directly in the implementation of this program in Yucatán.
Among the municipal authorities who also attended and signed this agreement were those of Mérida, Progreso, Conkal, Tixkokob, Chikindzonot, Umán, Tekax and 42 others from the interior of the State.
