Explore the new 2025 Ford Expedition: space, comfort, and EcoBoost power at the wheel.

In a market where size remains a compelling argument, Ford is updating its flagship SUV to maintain its position against its competitors. This new 2025 Expedition arrives not only with an evolution in design and technology, but with a complete reinterpretation of space, ergonomics, and travel. And it does so from the Kentucky plant, the epicenter of the Blue Oval's large SUV and pickup truck manufacturing.

On the outside, the new 2025 Expedition features a redesign that, while generally conservative, introduces functional and aesthetic elements that modernize its appearance. The proportions remain imposing, as strictly speaking, this is a full-size SUV, especially in the Max version, with an extended body that prioritizes cargo space and living space . The massive silhouette is accompanied by a new grille, LED headlights, and a DRL lighting signature that emphasizes the vehicle's width. It also features a new "Split Gate" tailgate, which can be partially or fully opened, adding a practical solution inspired by pickup trucks. Despite its size, details have been worked on to improve efficiency. Versions like the Platinum Max will feature wheels up to 24", something unprecedented in the industry.
Inside, the redesigned dashboard houses a new horizontal panoramic screen positioned right at the edge of the windshield, eliminating the need for a head-up display. The instrument cluster has been relocated above the steering wheel, in the style of Peugeot's i-Cockpit , allowing for a more relaxed driving position that, while different, is appreciated for its excellent visibility and comfort. The feeling of space is further enhanced by the cabin's proportions.

The finishes are upgraded while remaining practical: soft plastics with contrasting stitching, well-integrated textures, and a minimal presence of piano black. It focuses on order, visibility, and comfort , with a center console that can be electrically retracted to free up useful space between the front rows. The induction charger , USB ports, multi-zone climate control, and physical controls for key functions make everything accessible and functional.
There are seven- or eight-passenger versions, with second-row captain's chairs and a spacious third row. The trunk can be wide or enormous depending on the configuration. The new "Split Gate" system adds practical functionality by allowing it to be partially opened or used as a table.

Under the hood, we find the familiar 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 , tuned to deliver 440 hp (in this version) paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power delivery is progressive and response agile, with a feeling of lightness uncommon in an SUV weighing more than 2.5 tons. The suspension is better tuned and filters out traction very well, without losing firmness. Compared to the Suburban and Tahoe , the Expedition feels more precise and better insulated. Even on secondary roads, it's surprisingly good at hiding its size.
The steering is light in the city and sufficiently direct on the highway. The drive mode selector allows you to switch between Eco and Sport modes, as well as settings for towing and slippery surfaces. All models also include engageable all-wheel drive with a transfer case. The Tremor features a differential lock, expanding its capabilities without sacrificing comfort.

Behind the wheel, it offers a good balance between agility and comfort. It's stable in corners , and although natural understeer can be present, the electronics compensate effectively. It's not a sports car, but for its size, it's more agile than anyone would expect.
In the US and Canada , BlueCruise is a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature that allows hands-free driving on mapped highways while managing speed and steering. It is not yet available in Mexico . In real-world conditions, the results are convincing: it reduces fatigue on long journeys and provides additional safety in dense traffic.

The new Tremor version , which we still don't know if it will be available in Mexico, adds specific rims, a special suspension, increased ground clearance, special tires, low protection, and a differential lock. It demonstrates Ford 's intention to extend the Expedition's utility beyond the urban environment. It's not just a cosmetic edition; it adds real tools for off-roading.
In this new generation, a hybrid or PHEV version would have made perfect sense. Given the size and available battery space in the chassis, a plug-in variant would be logical and necessary in terms of efficiency. Meanwhile, fuel consumption remains its weakest point, especially compared to competitors that already offer electrified options with reasonable ranges for daily commutes.
The new Expedition improves in roominess, refinement, technology, and driving dynamics. It's large, yes, but also modern, better equipped, and more practical and safe . Ford did what it had to do: modernize without losing its essence, and deliver a product that is no longer just compelling in size, but also in modernity.
