May Tarascazo: 25 to 35% off Chinese products

May Tarascazo: 25 to 35% off Chinese products

Beware of Chinese products!

Mexico is no one's piñata, least of all the United States, its President Donald Trump , and the politicians seeking office in the November 2026 elections.

President Claudia Sheinbaum said this on Sunday, and those across the Rio Grande should take note so as not to further offend their southern neighbor and anger them, avoiding the consequences.

Above all, the Mexicans are concerned about their northern neighbors: starting in May, they will have to pay taxes of 25 to 35 percent on Chinese products, especially vehicles.

For those in the know, this is nothing new, as Mexican authorities announced tariff measures on February 25 to appease the magnate and avoid sanctions.

It wasn't achieved, but negotiations are underway on many issues to Trump 's liking, from automobiles to textiles, water, screwworms, and who knows how much else the mister comes up with.

OLD IMPORTS, NEW PRICES

But the abuses come.

As with all government actions and tax matters, business owners never lose, and in this case, they've found ways to make more money.

There's a reason the ports of Lázaro Cárdenas and Manzanillo are saturated, waiting for buyers.

Let's focus on cars: the units arrived in late 2024 and early 2025—January and February—when they weren't yet subject to this tariff surcharge.

But now they are preparing to sell them at the new price.

And while we're talking about 25 percent for vehicles, for other products like textiles, the adjustment will be at least 35 percent starting next month, regardless of whether they were introduced in previous months.

The benefit also extends to tax authorities, as Antonio Martínez Dagnino 's SAT (Tax Administration Service) is ready to collect the difference.

Why that benefit?

Overall, 75 percent of GDP is linked to imports, and 46 percent of VAT is linked to foreign trade.

Not bad.

Everyone wins, and Donald Trump is pleased with yet another docile action by the Mexican government to his demands to stem the flow of goods in his war against his Asian trade enemy.

PROTECTION OF THE GOD OF THE 4T FOR ROCHA

1.- The above:

Rubén Rocha Moya is undoubtedly the worst governor of Sinaloa, but he has a free hand to unleash his whims, his animosities, and his revenge.

He denies it, but instructed the State Congress to initiate proceedings to remove the immunity of the mayor of Ahome (Los Mochis), Gerardo Vargas .

To please him, the Morena legislative branch held a secret session yesterday to forward the request against the deputy president of the Association of Local Authorities of Mexico and the frontrunner in the polls for the 2027 governorship to the Investigative Section.

Rocha Moya wants to leave his successor Enrique Inzunza and apparently has full permission from the god father of the 4T .

And 2.- For the moment, the attempt to reform the Telecommunications Law to restrict freedom of expression, the right to information, and violations of the USMCA has been halted.

Adán Augusto López follows the presidential instruction and announces open forums to discuss the article drafted to give already arbitrary personal powers to José Antonio Peña Merino 's digital agency.

The proposal of the Telecommunications Law Institute (IDET) would be fulfilled, but does anyone believe in such forums?

They have never borne fruit, neither under this regime, nor under the PAN regime, nor under the PRI regime.
