Garrotero Pavilion.- Restaurant owners across the country have expressed their deep discontent after a new law went into effect requiring them, in an act of absolute tyranny, to pay their servers the minimum wage.

The reform to the Federal Labor Law aims to "protect" tips for workers in restaurants, hotels, bars, and gas stations, so that tips are not considered part of their wages, which has upset the rational owners of these establishments.

The minimum wage for waiters has restaurateurs furious.

“This is an assault on free enterprise,” declared one businessman as he poured himself a glass of whiskey.

For decades, restaurants had relied on the traditional and honorable economic model of "work for tips and be thankful we don't charge for your uniform," which had kept their standard of living afloat, now threatened by the intransigence of legislators.

"How do they expect us to survive now if they force us to pay our workers a salary, while they still receive tips?" asked the partner of a bar that automatically charged 10% tips.

As the final nail in the coffin, the new legal framework prohibits these businesses from forcing waiters to share tips, a measure that will be challenged by this union, which for years exploited its divine right to employ workers outside the law.

For its part, the National Organized Association of Mexican Restaurateurs Not Engaged in Brothels (ANORMAL) announced that it will file a class-action lawsuit, arguing that the new law violates their human right to maximize profits at the expense of others.
