World Cup 2026: CDMX will install a 'Fan Zone' to watch the matches in each municipality

As part of its tourism strategy for the 2026 World Cup , Mexico City will seek to diversify its offering, so that all municipalities benefit from the influx of travelers.
As part of the first actions, the organizers have decided to set up a “Fan Zone” in each of the municipalities.
“There will be one in each municipality, the idea is that everyone will have the opportunity to see the 2026 World Cup ,” revealed Carlos Martínez, general director of the Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion of Mexico City.
The capital's government plan will focus on diversifying the tourist offer during the World Cup; in addition, tourists who come to Mexico City will have a period of up to 5 days without matches, so it will be an opportunity to attract travelers to other parts of the capital with the aim of complementing their experience.
“We have to think about what needs to be done, all of that will be designed with the guidelines of Mexico City , we are working to generate the experiences,” Martínez added in an interview.
The World Cup will land in Mexico in June 2026. The capital and federal governments have already begun to carry out a series of works at the Mexico City airport to handle the flow of visitors, estimated at 5 million tourists.
This figure represents a quarter of what the Mexican capital receives throughout the year, so the hotel infrastructure will be in high demand, and it is expected that short-stay accommodations, such as Airbnb, can be a complement as long as local legislation on tourism does not cut off this aspiration.
Martinez added that at least 3,000 additional hotel rooms are being built in Mexico City, which, although they are not being built just for the World Cup, will serve as an addition to serve national and international tourists.
In the coming weeks, the government of Clara Brugada is expected to announce details of tourist circuits, attractions and investments to be made to support the World Cup, which is returning for the third time in the history of the sport.
