Fox Corporation acquires Caliente TV; will broadcast six Liga MX teams

MEXICO CITY (apro).- Fox Corporation announced the acquisition of Caliente TV, one of Mexico's leading sports platforms, with which it will develop a multiplatform business to launch a new pay channel and a video-on-demand (SVOD) service platform where users will pay a monthly or annual fee to access content.
This will be added to the current platform known as Tubi, bringing the total to 3,000 hours of digital sports content.
“Fox's investment in Caliente TV reflects our commitment to building a leading sports streaming business in Mexico with massive reach, a robust sports rights portfolio, and an impressive roster of exclusive sports leagues and top talent,” said Carlos Martínez, executive vice president and general manager for Latin America at Fox Corporation, in a statement.
With the purchase of Caliente TV, the men's Liga MX teams León, Pachuca, Tijuana, Querétaro, Tigres and Juárez, as well as the women's teams Chivas, Pachuca, Tijuana, Juárez, Querétaro, Atlas, Santos, Puebla and Mazatlán will be broadcast by Fox Corporation, although it is unknown if they will continue to be broadcast on Tubi as is currently the case or if it will be through the new pay-TV site.
Caliente TV was founded on September 25, 2023, as a digital social media platform. In June 2024, it began broadcasting matches of the Tijuana Xolos and then those of the Querétaro Gallos Blancos. Shortly after, it acquired the broadcast rights to Champions League matches.
Chivas games will continue on Amazon.
Fox Corporation is currently engaged in litigation with Fox Sports Mexico, owned by Grupo Lauman, which has lost a large portion of its national and international broadcasting rights in recent months.
The legal dispute also concerns the use of the name. Manuel Arroyo's Grupo Lauman purchased Fox Sports Mexico from Disney.
Fox Corporation subsequently sued him in California because the license was only allowed for five years, from 2019 to 2024. Starting in 2025, he was required to stop using it.
