Maradona case: Judge Makintach suspended for 90 days following the documentary scandal

The Supreme Court of Justice of the province of Buenos Aires suspended Judge Julieta Makintach for 90 days , accused of having participated in the recording of an alleged documentary based on the trial for the death of Diego Armando Maradona .

According to the resolution released tonight, "the measure takes effect today," for a period of three months. "Due to the nature of the events involved and the urgency of the case, the Court has forwarded the resolution to the Attorney General , so that he may evaluate Dr. Makintach's actions in accordance with Law No. 13,661 (on the prosecution of magistrates)."

With the signatures of its president Hilda Kogan, vice president Sergio Gabriel Torres and justice Daniel Fernando Soria, the provincial Supreme Court indicated that the initial analysis of the background information highlighted and the presentation made by the Undersecretary of Disciplinary Control of the Court, allow us to notice the "unusual characteristics" of the participation that the aforementioned judge would have had in a film or video, supposedly a documentary, referring to the criminal process (...) "to whose development she should dedicate her exclusive attention."

The ruling also stated that Makintach's conduct, "at the very least, fell far short of the sobriety , restraint, and correctness required of all employees of this branch of government. Viewed from this perspective, such conduct, irreconcilable with the decorum and prudence required by legality, would be in stark contrast to the responsible conduct of the court."

Initially, Makintach denied any connection to the production company making the documentary, which involved her own brother; however, the evidence found by the prosecution was decisive in removing her from the case and suspending her.
