The Estartit Jazz Festival is in serious danger of not taking place this summer.

The Sea Jazz l'Estartit festival may not take place in 2025 due to the refusal of the Decentralized Municipal Entity (EMD) to provide 10% of the project's funding, according to La Vanguardia after speaking with the parties involved. The festival, launched in 2014, reached 95% occupancy last year and had established itself as a jazz cultural destination by bringing in artists such as Madeleine Peyroux, Javier Colina, and Chucho Valdés.

The organization, Juventuts Musicals de Torroella, which after six months of talks could announce next Monday that it will not take place, regrets that an unsustainable situation has been reached due to the lack of involvement of the EMD. The mayor of Torroella de Montgrí, Jordi Colomí, yesterday expressed his "disgust" at the possible cancellation and pointed out that it is "only" a matter of 20,000 euros. The president of the EMD, Genís Dalmau, however, remains firm in his decision, which is part of a recovery plan, and has prioritized other cultural initiatives, although he does not rule out including the festival in next year's budget.
