The Max Awards nominees: 'Afanador' dance receives eight nominations; 'Casting Lear' and 'El día del Watusi' are favorites for best play.

Afanador , the dance show created by Marcos Morau for the Spanish National Ballet, inspired by the flamenco work of photographer Ruven Afanador, is nominated in eight of the 20 categories of the Max Awards for the Performing Arts and is the leading contender for the SGAE Foundation Awards.

Casting Lear and El día del Watusi are the favorites in the theater category, with four nominations, for the 28th edition of these awards, which will be presented on June 16 at the Gayarre Theater in Pamplona.

The Max Award for best theatre show will be contested by Casting Lear ; The Day of the Watusi ; The Color of Milk ; A Monster Calls ; and Vania x Vania .

In the category for best director are Andrea Jiménez and Úrsula Martínez for Casting Lear ; Iván Morales for The Day of the Watusi ; and Marcos Morau for Afanador .

The nominees for best actor are Ahmed Younoussi for 14.4 ; Enric Auquer for The Day of the Watusi ; and Juan Vinuesa for 1936 .

Ágata Roca will compete for the Max for best actress for L'imperatiu categòric ; Aitziber Garmendia for Esnearen kolorekoa / Del color de la leche , and Miriam Moukhles for Tots ocells .

In the category of best dance performance, the following are selected: Afanador ; La Quijá ; Muerta de amor ; Natural order of things ; and Pineda. Popular romance in three prints .

While the nominees for Best Production Work are Barco Pirata, Andrea Jiménez and Teatro de la Abadía for Casting Lear ; La Fam Teatre for Ambulant ; and LaJoven / Fundación Teatro Joven for A Monster Calls .

Of the 486 shows entered in this edition, 179 were selected as candidates . Of these, only 33 productions made it to the final round, bringing together a total of 61 finalists .

The Max de Honor will recognize the professional career of the late creator Juan Margallo and his widow Petra Martínez (ex aequo) and the Max Amateur or of a social nature will be awarded to Ignacio Aranguren and Vicente Galbete for their entire career as teachers of the School Theater Workshop of the Navarro Villoslada Institute in Pamplona.

Finally, the Max Audience Applause Award will be given to the show that has garnered the most public support, supported by massive attendance and continued running.
