Gas rates increase from June: how much they increase

ENARGAS published in the Official Gazette that natural gas rates will increase between 2.6% and 2.8% nationwide starting this month, based on the new pricing schemes for transportation and distribution services implemented by the national government. This increase, according to the government , is lower than what is actually appropriate, but they do not want to generate an inflationary cycle with the increase in services.
"The rates for the natural gas transportation and distribution segment must be increased based on the results of the five-year tariff reviews carried out by the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS)," states one of the resolutions justifying the adjustment. These increases also respond to the updated gas prices at the Transmission System Entry Point (PIST), which had already been adjusted days earlier.
For its part, the government is torn between its intention to raise rates to keep up with inflation, its goal of reducing subsidies, and the electoral need to avoid further straining consumers' pockets. It's worth remembering that Milei decided not to implement the full increase in electricity prices, which means that even residents of high-income neighborhoods will be subsidized this winter after having lost this benefit.
Starting in June, natural gas rates will be adjusted again. The government decided to raise the surcharge intended to finance subsidies for colder areas , from 6% to 6.20% . The increase directly impacts the price paid by all users in the country, which, together, will cover part of the cost for families living in areas with lower temperatures.
The additional amount is allocated to the Trust Fund for Residential Gas Consumption Subsidies. This mechanism allows users in regions with lower temperatures, such as Patagonia, to access a differential rate. In many cases, the discount on the full rate schedule reaches 50%.
