Italian and British Post Offices join the temporary suspension of package shipments to the US due to Trump's tariffs.

Poste Italiane , Italy's leading postal company, and the UK's Royal Mail have announced that they, along with other European postal operators, are forced to "temporarily suspend the acceptance of all shipments containing goods destined for the United States " due to the introduction of tariffs. Similar actions have been taken by the postal services of India, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, and Denmark.
Correos España has announced that, starting Monday, it will temporarily suspend the acceptance of packages to the United States and Puerto Rico with a commercial value equal to or less than $800, in order to adapt to the new tariff regulations imposed by the Donald Trump administration.
Royal Mail announced the withdrawal of its current business export services to the US starting this Tuesday, but warned that it hopes to have a new system up and running to comply with the new rules. It clarified, however, that cards and letters can continue to be sent normally.
"We have been working hard with US authorities and our international partners to adapt our services to the new US requirements, so that UK consumers and businesses can continue to use our services when they come into effect," the company said.
"In the absence of any different instructions from the US authorities or exceptions to the aforementioned deadlines, Poste Italiane will be forced, like other European postal operators, to temporarily suspend the acceptance of all shipments containing goods destined for the United States," it announced.
For the time being, they explained, mail shipments without merchandise will continue to be accepted, as well as those sent by Poste Italiane to the United States through the " Poste Delivery International Express " service, managed through a different logistics process.
This new measure, they explained, "follows a US decree approved on July 30, which modifies customs procedures for goods shipped to the US, which previously enjoyed a duty-free allowance of up to $800.
"It is essential that all the details regarding the implementation of the tariffs be clarified as soon as possible, as requested by other international operators. This is one of the first effects of Trump's tariffs, poorly negotiated by the EU, which have an impact on the lives of consumers and businesses that goes far beyond the political perspective," Luigi Daniele of the consumer organization Consumerismo told the media.
While Italy's largest consumer association, Codacons , also demanded swift intervention: "In this chaotic situation, urgent intervention by the European Commission is necessary to establish uniform procedures across the EU, ensuring maximum transparency for postal service users who suffer negative repercussions."
New Zealand Post also joinsNew Zealand 's postal service has announced the suspension of most shipments to the United States, citing uncertainty over the impact of President Donald Trump's tariffs.
The postal service company said it suspended service starting August 21, ahead of the 15% U.S. tariff going into effect on August 29.
Only certain important letters and documents, such as passports or legal documents, will be sent to the United States, the service indicated on its website.
Washington began applying tariffs to the rest of the world in April, but most of them will go into effect this month after lengthy negotiations and delays.
New Zealand Post said it is working "quickly" to make the necessary changes to allow delivery to resume "as soon as possible."
