Oxxo joins Buen Fin 2025; they're looking for Walmart to return.

The 15th edition of El Buen Fin, the Mexican retail event where stores offer discounts and promotions on products and services, will feature some changes. One of the new features is that Oxxo will join the "cheapest weekend of the year" for the first time, while negotiations are underway to bring Walmart back into the campaign.
According to the Ministry of Economy (SE), this year's Buen Fin will last longer, from Thursday, November 13th to Monday, November 17th. Furthermore, the Mexican government approached companies that had never participated or had stopped participating in the event. One such case is the Oxxo chain, which had never participated in the campaign since its creation in 2011.
This is the first time Oxxo has participated, said Femsa's Director of Corporate Affairs, Roberto Campa Cifrián, who added that they hadn't participated previously because "we thought the requirements were complex, but they explained to us that there's no fee to pay, but rather it's about offering attractive promotions to consumers."

This is the first time we've participated in this program, and we know that, given its nature, we have to find promotions that appeal to consumers, and we're working on it." he added.
The Ministry of Economy said that the other company that will be joining again is Walmart, a self-service store chain that stopped participating in 2019, the year it ceased to be part of the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (ANTAD), so it stopped being part of El Buen Fin and instead launched the "Irresistible Weekend."
"We've already invited Walmart too. They've already decided to participate. We're going to work with them too. We're in talks with them. So, we're doing very well. We're very encouraged, we're very happy." , said the general director of Competitiveness and Competition of the Ministry of Economy, Enrique Salomón Rosas.
During the presentation of " Oxxo, a new partner of El Buen Fin," the official commented that they hope to surpass the number of registered companies and the sales figures achieved by 2024.
"Last year, around one hundred and seventy-something thousand businesses, establishments, and retailers registered, and we're hoping to surpass our goal. That's why... we've taken on the task of inviting more and more companies, telling them what we're presenting: that it's completely free to register and participate, that it's very easy to do so, and that we're at your service because what we want is to make more offers available to the public," he added.

It's an ideal weekend to plan shopping, Christmas shopping, many other household appliance purchases, etc."
He considered that Oxxo's addition to the program expands opportunities for more Mexicans to benefit, because these stores play an important role. He added that the convenience store chain is seeking to add more products made by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) so that they can also be integrated into the Made in Mexico seal.
Femsa's Director of Corporate Affairs added that, as is the case with the slowing economy, "we have had to make an effort because sales of some products have been squeezed."
However, he commented that "this is a company that was 10 years old when the Mexican Revolution began" and it has thrived despite the circumstances.
He added that, although they face security issues, "the characteristic, not only of Oxxo, but of all Femsa stores, is that there is no possibility of dialogue or cooperation with organized crime; there is absolutely no relationship or payment."
Roberto Campa Cifrián added: "When necessary, we've closed stores. Last year, more than 200 stores closed in Nuevo Laredo or on the Ixtla bridge."
