Searching mothers demand that Puebla officials "stop pretending."

PUEBLA, Pue. (apro).- Marching through the streets of Puebla, searching mothers reiterated their demands on Alejandro Armenta's government for revictimizing the disappeared and discrediting the work they do in search of their loved ones, which should be the responsibility of the State.

This May 10th, Mother's Day, they said there was nothing to celebrate, because "the State is also orphaned."

Prior to the March for Dignity, which is being repeated in other parts of the country, the mothers who are members of the Voice of the Disappeared Collective, whose leader María Luisa Núñez Barojas was recently publicly accused by the Secretary of the Interior, Samuel Aguilar Pala, asked the authorities to "stop pretending."

"We tell the officials at Casa Aguayo and the State Search Commission to stop revictimizing our missing persons and stop trying to discredit what we do out of love and from the heart. Stop insulting our work, which is what you should be doing."

The message read by Núñez Barojas called on the state government to understand that the bus emergency is the result of a structurally corrupt system.

They also referred to the most recent public confrontation they had with Aguilar Pala, who contradicted the searching mothers regarding the fact that it was the Army, not the relatives, who discovered a clandestine grave in the municipality of Palmar de Bravo.

"No, Mr. Pala," they claimed in their message, "it's not a trophy. The existence of clandestine graves should make you ashamed and is something that society should no longer tolerate."

Meanwhile, other groups continued to support Núñez Barojas and the searching mothers, such as the Coordination of Organizations Tejiendo Territorio, which expressed its rejection of "the narrative of intimidation and disqualification" coming from the Puebla government, which occurs in a context of violence against defenders and increases their vulnerability.
