Citizen Movement tragedy: "Justice is not coming," hearing postponed again

The search for justice for the 10 victims of a stage collapse in San Pedro faces a new obstacle. For the third time, the arraignment hearing has been postponed, prolonging the families' grief and fueling the perception of impunity.

More than a year after the tragedy that plunged Nuevo León into mourning , justice seems increasingly distant for the victims of the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) rally in San Pedro Garza García . For the third consecutive time, the indictment hearing to determine responsibility for the collapse of the stage, which claimed the lives of 10 people and left more than 200 injured, has been postponed, plunging the victims' families into deep frustration.

The new postponement not only delays the legal process, but also exacerbates the grief of those who lost their loved ones and fuels a growing perception of impunity in a high-profile political and social case.

The official reason for this new postponement, according to judicial sources, was the absence of some of the suspects and their respective defense attorneys. While this is a legally valid reason to postpone a hearing, the fact that it is happening for the third time has generated suspicion and anger.

For many, the repeated absences are perceived not as a coincidence, but as a possible delaying strategy to prolong the process and avoid accountability. The State Attorney General's Office continues the investigation, but more than a year after the accident, no one responsible has yet been punished.

Each postponement is a new wound for the families who lost their loved ones on that night of May 22, 2024. The tragedy left devastating stories, like that of Alejandra Gámez, who lost her father and her 11-year-old half-brother in the accident.

Although there have been no direct reactions to this latest postponement, the families' cry for justice has been constant. Their pain, expressed in memorials and on social media, is now compounded by the slowness of a system that seems incapable of providing them with answers and closure.

The investigation seeks to determine responsibility for the organization of the massive event, the installation of the structure, and the safety protocols in light of the adverse weather conditions that occurred that day. It has been reported that at least six municipal officials from San Pedro could be under investigation for their alleged involvement in the events.

The judicial process is key to clarifying whether there was negligence, omissions or failures in supervision that directly contributed to the fatal collapse of the stage, where the then presidential candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez was located.

The MC rally case is becoming a symbol of the slowness and shortcomings of the justice system. The failure to bring the alleged perpetrators before a judge more than a year after the tragedy generates deep social unrest and distrust in institutions.

The demands of the community, and especially of the affected families, are clear: that the process move forward, that responsibilities be determined, and that justice be done so that a tragedy of this magnitude is not forgotten or left unpunished.
